This article explains what a sending domain is and how you can verify it. It also elaborates on why verifying your sending domain is useful in the first place. Heads up: it makes sure that only you can use your email domain!

What is a sending domain?

A sending domain is the common part of the email addresses an organization uses. It may be seen as a shared identity from where an organization sends all of its email messages.

Look for the extension after the “@” in any email address in order to find the sending domain: for the email address info@smart.pr for example, the sending domain is “smart.pr”.

Why should I verify my sending domain?

By verifying your sending domain, you prove that you have righteous access to that particular domain. This prevents so-called “email spoofing”. Spoofing occurs when somebody else uses your email-sending domain, pretending to be you.

Since April 2020, it's mandatory to verify a sending domain before emails can be sent from that domain. This measure ensures that the security of our application is further enhanced.

How do I verify my sending domain?

In the Smart.pr app, click your name in the top right corner to open the dropdown menu. Now, click “Manage sending domains” to open a list with all the sending domains that are used by your organization in your Smart.pr account. This list is automatically derived from the “Senders” in the “Manage Senders” menu in Smart.pr. You can verify each and every one of these sending domains.

In order to do so, please click the blue link “Verify this domain”. A popup appears and you can paste or type an email address that belongs to this particular sending domain. Note that it is important that you (or someone close in your organization) can access the inbox of this email address directly. After you’ve entered the email address and clicked “send verification link”, you’ll receive an email with this verification link. Open the email, click the link and follow the instructions. Your sending domain has now been verified.
